Seminars
Sunday Seminars: Sunday Seminars, discussions designed to help adults in their journeys with God, are held 9:45-10:45 in the Fellowship Hall. Drop-ins are always welcome. To find the Fellowship Hall, head straight out the Sanctuary, down the steps, and turn right. Or follow your nose to the smell of freshly brewed coffee! First up this year is….

Heaven & Hell: Facts, Myths, and Best Guesses
Kathy Faber-Langendoen & Bob Langston
Rob Bell (you’ve seen his DVDs in worship and Sunday Seminars) stirred up controversy this spring with his book, “Love Wins.” Bell suggests that we can’t be so sure that Heaven is reserved only for Christians—or that Hell is the ever-burning fire that many of us learned about as kids. We’ll discuss Bell’s book, opposing views, and what the Bible does—and does not—say about the reality of our lives after death.
November 6 & 13
Climate Change: Why Creation Care Is Getting Harder
Don Faber-Langendoen
What better way to follow up a study of Hell than to look at rising temperature here on Earth? Don Faber-Langendoen, conservation biologist, will lead a two-week discussion on global climate change and why we as Christians ought to care. The sessions are: “The heat is on: Who controls the dial?” and “Global Warming: Are we going to lose the Adirondacks?”
To be determined
The Bible in a Year! 2012 is the year of the Dragon for people from China, but here at OHPC, 2012 is the Year of the Bible. Ever thought about reading through the Bible from cover to cover? And did your good intentions get bogged down somewhere between Deuteronomy and Leviticus? Well, 2012 is the year you can actually accomplish this. Join others at OHPC in reading through the Bible in a year. We have a great study guide, with summaries of the books of the Bible. Kathy and Sarah are exploring ways to use this for all ages (Bible Jeopardy, anyone?), and Pastor Bob will be preaching along with the readings. In November, we’ll lay the groundwork with a presentation on various translations and approaches to reading the Bible. If you’re ready for a new translation, this will give you time to find the right one (and put it on your Christmas list!) in time for our January 1 start.
Stay tuned for other plans for Sunday Seminars. Jim Krisher, our missionaries Bud and Bonnie Morton, and more are coming your way. Keep watch on the bulletin and Messenger for updates.
