visit the site for greater details.

2009 marks the 25 anniversary of Syracuse Habitat for Humanity, Inc. During the past 25 years, Syracuse Habitat for Humanity has built or renovated 56 non-profit houses that have been sold to selected families through interest-free mortgages.

Syracuse Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-profit ecumenical agency whose mission is to eliminate substandard housing in the world. Syracuse Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which people can live and grow into all that God intended. We create partnerships within the community by crossing racial, cultural, political and economic barriers. Syracuse Habitat for Humanity, Inc. does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, family status or disability.

S.W.E.A.T. for HABITAT news

Thanks to dozens and dozens of supporters from Onondaga Hill Presbyterian Church, the 9th Annual Youth/Adult S.W.E.A.T. for HABITAT Bowl-A-Thon was once again a great success.  The event took place at Bowl Mor Lanes in East Syracuse on Sunday, January 24th.

Nearly 100 bowlers representing 13 churches and other groups raised, to date, $5,067.00, surpassing the goal of $5,000.00.  It is possible that a few more pledged dollars are yet to be turned in.

Bowling from OHPC were:  Steve Arnold, Marcy Dembs, Chris Dembs, Jim LeMessurier, Linda LeMessurier and Ray Leach.

Three OHPC members managed the busy registration table with great efficiency.  They were  Betty Fisher, who organized the system,  Kim Eggleton and Marsha Deuel,  Barbara Leach and Ray Leach were co-chairs of  arrangements.

The Rev. Bob Langston and Linda LeMessurier provided pieces of their fine ceramic work as door prizes.

Besides Onondaga Hill Presbyterian Church, other groups on the bowling lanes were:  Bellevue Heights United Methodist, The Reformed Church, Alpha Omega Chapter;  Menter, Rudin, Trivelpiece, PC; Manlius United Methodist;  Fayetteville United Methodist;  Syracuse Rotary;  Syracuse Habitat staff;  First Presbyterian United of Syracuse; First Presbyterian of Baldwinsville;  Robinson Memorial and United Church of Christ in Bayberry.  In addition, S.W.E.A.T. received a substantial gift of support from “Local 317 Teamsters Care”.

A portion of the funds raised by the event will be used to build a tool storage shed this spring for an already constructed Habitat home.  Don Faber-Langendoen, OHPC member and volunteer coordinator for S.W.E.A.T. will be scheduling a tool shed construction date within the next month or two.   Other dollars will go toward the construction of the next Habitat Inter-Faith House for which Syracuse Habitat is currently seeking leadership.  Those who could take on this responsibility or assist in any way are asked to phone 492-1137 or 422-2230.

As in past years, OHPC’s support ranked high on the list of number of dollars pledged and number of those who participated in this S.W.E.A.T. for HABITAT event!  Many kudos!
