Sentinel

We are SENTINEL. An “A Cappella” Quartet.  Our style is that of Christian Barbershop.
Sentinel” was formed in 1993 to perform occasional Anthems in the member’s church, OHPC.   Our love of music and passion to sing God’s praise become our Ministry.  Today, our singers hail from 3 churches, and the group sings all over the region in worship services, concerts and church social events.

In 2007, Sentinel performed at the   23rd annual Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival Boston Regional.”    This National competition included such names as “Men In Black”, “5-Alone” and “Firedrill” to name a few. It was an honor to be chosen to compete against such artists as these.  We came away with a greater love for singing.

Let me introduce you to the group.

Our Tenor – Archie McEvers attends the Nelson United Methodist Church. But let’s not stop there. He is also active in the Fenner and Cazenovia Churches as well.  Archie is retired from his position as a Nurse Practitioner with Upstate Hospital’s Palliative Care service in Syracuse and is involved in various barbershop groups.

Our Lead – George Carruth is a Commissioned Lay Pastor at the Cincinnatus United Presbyterian Church and also maintains his membership in the Onondaga Hill Presbyterian Church.  George has retired as a physical therapist at St. Camillus.

Our Bass – Glen Gardner has been a member of the North Syracuse Northminster Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. He is the Leader of the Building and Grounds Team. Glen is retired Registered Nurse from the Syracuse VA Hospital. He has kept busy in his retirement with working at church, singing, and playing his trombone in the Fulton Community Band and Bones East

Baritone 2– Steve Arnold. As you can see, I am also the Webmaster of the Sentinel pages as well as that of my home Church, Onondaga Hill Presbyterian.  I am an Elder and Session member in my church.    I am retired from Verizon as a Customer Support Analyst.

Our Baritone 1 – Joe Browne, attends and is very active in his church, Robinson Elmwood United Church.  He arranges all our music and coordinates most of our events. Joe retired from Onondaga Community College from his position as Math Professor. When Joe isn’t working on his house or doing woodworking, he is most likely at one of the other barbershop groups he enjoys.

We have a wonderful collection of songs from our CD’s which we hope you will enjoy.
