Dear Ones

Yesterday we heard again the story of ascension when Jesus was lifted into heaven, and the disciples stood there watching the sky where he had disappeared.

As they stood there gawking, did they remember that he promised them that God would send the Advocate to be with them? In the tension of that holy moment, seeing Jesus their teacher and brother but also seeing this glorious ascension, did they realize that the story was not over?

So much had happened to them over those forty days.

Between the intimate setting at the tomb and the upper room to the ascension, the story becomes increasing larger. The disciples are told to stay in Jerusalem until the Spirit is given to them, when they will be changed and charged to spread the Gospel to all the nations.

We are here because of those men and women that witnessed the resurrection, the ascension and the arrival of the Holy Spirit.

We are here because the movement of the Spirit is ever-outward, including all people (yes, even us!)

One these last Great Fifty Days, how have you been moved and changed? Are your eyes a bit more open to the work of the Spirit? Where is it at work in your life?

Blessings –

Pastor Karen
