Right after they were saved from certain death, gratitude gave way to nostalgia for the Israelites. Nostalgia never leads you forward with gratitude because it casts an impossible standard – a candy coated, much improved rendering of what once was, but can never be again. I mean seriously… how wonderful was slavery for the fickle Israelites anyway?
